SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH) today announced the appointment of Maria Hadjiyane, PhD, to the newly created role of chief operating officer.
Hadjiyane is currently the vice president of ambulatory services for MBH. In her new role as COO she will be responsible for the operations of all MBH facilities and programs, including Spring Harbor Hospital. The COO is in charge of guiding a company鈥檚 workflow strategy and organization of all essential business processes.

The role of COO at MBH was created following the retirement announcement by Mary Jane Krebs, currently president of Spring Harbor Hospital, who plans to step down at the end of this year.
鈥淲e have benefited immeasurably from Mary Jane鈥檚 leadership at Spring Harbor,鈥� said Barton. 鈥淗er retirement offers us an opportunity to think about a more unified structure for our organization. This new role will foster improved communication and collaboration across the organization, along with smoother operational decision-making and execution. The end result should be a more seamless continuum of care for those in our community with behavioral health needs.鈥�
Hadjiyane joined MBH in August 2020 as vice president of ambulatory services. Prior to that, she served as the senior director behavioral health adult ambulatory services with Inova Health System in Virginia. She received her master of arts in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University in Maryland and received her PhD in Counseling from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
