As previously announced, AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ will launch a new, unified identity for its hospitals and other system entities â€� making it easier for patients to find and access care. In addition, Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland and Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) in Biddeford and Sanford are coming together under a single hospital license. The license integration and brand transition both take effect on June 1, 2024. 

Three hospitals become one, multi-campus medical center

• AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ Maine Medical Center Portland (formerly known as Maine Medical Center) on the AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ Portland Campus
• AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ Maine Medical Center Biddeford (formerly known as Biddeford Medical Center) on the AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ Biddeford Campus
• AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ Maine Medical Center Sanford (formerly known as Sanford Medical Center or Goodall Hospital) on the AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ Sanford Campus

We will also continue to operate Urgent Care Plus on the AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ Brighton Campus and at the AOAÌåÓýƽ̨ Surgery Center in Scarborough.

For referring providers

There are no changes to the process for providers to refer patients to Maine Medical Center and Southern Maine Health Care following June 1. All fax numbers, addresses and phone numbers will remain the same. However, be aware that exterior signage, practice and hospital names will be updated to reflect our new naming standards. Please help your patients understand these changes.

Always specify the location when referring to Maine Medical Center

MMC Portland is still the only Tertiary Care/Level 1 Trauma Center in Maine. ­There will be no changes to emergency services offered at MMC Portland, MMC Biddeford and MMC Sanford. 

One June 1, the names of most locations and services associated with MMC and SMHC will be changing. Building signs, printed materials and web pages will be gradually updated during June - October 2024. Our referral/admitting processes, fax numbers, addresses and phone numbers will remain the same.
